Why Carry Extra Weight When You Don't Have To

Not having an open mind can cause some people to fail at weight loss. Too often, they get stuck thinking that a particular diet plan is the only solution. This couldn't be further from the truth. In this article, we will share some ideas to help you open your mind to new ways of losing weight.

When you are planning out your meals and snacks, opt for fruit and veggie snacks rather than a diet shake or a weight loss bar. Shakes and diet bars are very calorie dense and do not satisfy hunger for long. You will probably end up cranky and more hungry after eating it. Also you may take in a lot of sugar which causes blood sugar to go up while making you not feel good.

Participating in a fad diet, like the ABC diet, may sound like a good plan initially. Avoid these diets because many of them can be nutritionally harmful and a majority of users gain the weight right back after stopping. Following a fad diet, such as simply eating pineapples or bananas and nothing else, becomes tiring to follow after a certain period of time. Using a fad diet also teaches you nothing about eating nutritionally. It is better to just eat a healthy and balanced diet to lose weight.

Surely everyone loves french fries! They are usually a great pitfall for many who want to lose weight. If you must have french fries, try to bake them. Cut potatoes into 1/2" fries, toss in a large bowl with 1 tbsp. of oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper and a bit of rosemary if you like, and bake in a single layer at 400 degrees for 30 min. Use a spatula to loosen them, turn them over and let them bake for approximately 10 minutes. These taste great with ketchup, have reduced calories and might make you forget about deep-fried potatoes. This great idea for "French Bakes" came from Laurel's Kitchen cookbook.

You will have an easier time losing weight by making exercising a good time. It's been proven that successful weight loss campaigns always include exercise. You could try walking with your friends, taking your kids out for a play date at the park, or using one of the physical fitness video games available for modern game consoles.

A simple way to lose some additional pounds is to eat slowly. Then you can savor your meal and give your body time to let you know when it is full. Your body needs time for your mind to tell you that it's satisfied. Put down your fork after each bite and enjoy the food. Eventually, the feeling of being full will emerge.

If your goal is to lose weight, focus on cardio activities and emphasize weight training less. While muscle building is great for helping you lose weight, cardio training is essential since it helps you burn large amounts of calories relatively easily. Cardio work that increases the heart rate and breathing is more effective at burning fat than is adding muscle.

If you feel hungry, drink a protein shake. Mix a little bit of protein powder and ice whenever you get hungry, and not only are you cutting down on calories, but you will feel healthier too.

Use the stairs whenever you can. It might just be one flight or a more challenging multi-floor trip but it is a great workout for muscles and metabolism. This is an excellent cardio workout and can help you lose weight. This is beneficial for overall health as well as for weight loss. You can eventually graduate to running the stairs once walking them becomes easy.
